After a difficult start to life at the Bernabeu, the Brazilian 18-year-old had just found a run of form and was starting to win over the supporters in Madrid.
But that progress looks to have been curtailed by an injury – and judging by Vinicius’ immediate reaction, it looks like he could be sidelined for some time.

He lay on the side of the pitch in tears before being helped away by the club’s medical team
As soon as the injury occurred, the youngster burst into tears and was left inconsolable as physios helped him walk back round the outside of the pitch.
He pulled his shirt up to dry his eyes and appeared absolutely distraught to see his game come to such an abrupt end.
To make matters worse, Real Madrid’s participation in the competition came to a shock early end too, with Ajax dumping them out in the last 16.
Los Blancos have won the competition for the last three years but there will be a different name on the trophy this year after the Dutch side put together a 4-1 win at the Bernabeu and a 5-3 aggregate scoreline.

Real were 2-0 down when Vinicius’ injury occurred, with the youngster being replaced by fellow talent Marco Asensio.
The Brazilian’s injury was met with much sadness by supporters on social media, who felt the pain of the forward as he walked off the pitch.
One fan wrote: ‘What makes this Vinicius Jr injury worse is that he might miss his senior national team debut. It’s sad.’
Another noted: ‘Get well soon Vinicius. Horrible to see such a big talent go off like that in such a big game.’
