Wigan Warriors are demanding that Shaun Edwards clarify his comments that seemed to rule out his proposed cross-code switch to the rugby league club.

Edwards will leave his post as Wales defence coach after this year’s World Cup and had agreed a move in principle back to former club Wigan, where he spent 14 successful years as a player.

However, he revealed over the weekend that he is still yet to sign a contract at Wigan and that he is unemployed once he has fulfilled his Wales duties.

Edwards’ comments came after Wales sealed a third Grand Slam triumph in 12 years, which saw the decorated 52-year-old collect his 50th career winners’ medal as a player and coach.

His remarks seem to have come as a surprise to Wigan.

A club statement read: ‘Following the conclusion of the Six Nations and Shaun’s comments, we have been seeking dialogue with Shaun directly since Sunday to clarify to Wigan his intentions.’
